Stolen Moment

They sat together in the pouring rain.

Water bounced from the scales of the woman’s tail, dripping from her elaborate fins.

The other crossed their legs and tipped their ashen face up to the sky.

‘It’s nice to see you in the day,’ said the woman. She wove a strand of seaweed into the other’s hair.

‘It’s nice to see you on the surface.’

They leaned their head on the woman’s scaly shoulder and enjoyed their stolen moment for as long as the rain would last.
