The plantlings stretched and sang as rain splashed from their leaves. They wriggled their roots, drinking with greedy joy.
The plant mage snapped her spellbook shut. ‘Better?’
One plantling shivered in assent, the petals of its many buds furling and unfurling.
Another swayed its tree-like boughs with a satisfied oaken groan.
‘Good! I’d better go inside –‘
Disappointed sighs echoed through the garden.
She smiled. ‘Well. I suppose a little rain is good for me, too.’
